Tijjani Reijnders was born in Zwolle on 29 July 1998 and broke through at his hometown club, PEC Zwolle. In August 2017, in the final few minutes of a victory over Roda JC, he made his Eredivisie debut after spending some time in youth football at FC Twente and CSV'28. His debut attracted the attention of AZ Alkmaar, who signed him in the summer of 2017; he has spells both with AZ's reserve team (who play in the second tier of the football system in the Netherlands) and at RKC Waalwijk on loan. It was in the last two seasons – between 2021 and 2023 – that Tijjani really began to make waves in the top flight of Dutch football.
He scored his first goal on September 2021 and bagged his first brace at the end of the season in the play-off final against Vitesse for a European spot. 2022/23 would be his best season yet, as he played in all 54 of AZ's competitive matches in the league and cup competitions. Seven goals and twelve assists helped the club from Alkmaar to a stunning season as they finished fourth in the league and reach the Conference League semi-final where they lost to West Ham, who would go on to beat Fiorentina in the final. Following this spectacular campaign, Tijjani was awarded a spot in the Eredivisie's Top XI and finished the season as the midfielder with the most dribbles completed in European competitions. 2022/23 saw Tijjani receive his first international call-up (though he has yet to make his debut) for the Nations League Final Four that was hosted in the Netherlands, after featuring for the Oranje on various occasions at Under-20 level.
