Born in Buenos Aires on 18 April 2001 - but proudly representing the Mexican flag - Santiago Gimenez grew as a footballer at Cruz Azul where he made his debut on 2 April 2017 at just over 16-years-old. He became part of the Celestes first team in 2019/20, and he was a key player in securing the team's league win in 2021, their first in 23 years. Cruz Azul won three titles, one of which was their Super Cup victory in 2022. This was his last feature for the Mexican side before coming to Europe and joining Feyenoord in Summer 2022. His first league season in The Netherlands was a triumph as he totalled 15 goal contributions (23 in all competitions), helping the club from Rotterdam to win the title. The following year, 2023/24, was even better: he scored more goals - 23 in the league - and he got his first in the Champions League. In his second season, he won the KNVB Cup as well as the 2024 Super Cup against PSV. In his last months at Feyenoord before joining the Rossoneri, he continued scoring goals, and he ended his time in The Netherlands on 65 goals in 105 appearances. He has been part of Mexico's set up ever since he was young, and he made his full senior debut in October 2021. His best moment so far is his 2023 Gold Cup win, where he scored several goals in the final against Panama. He was also a key player in the most recent Copa América.
